Senior Project week 1 recap

This week I started the process of creating a video to be used in the admissions office at Proctor Academy. So far, I have really enjoyed the experience. Walking around with a camera and capturing moments during the day has been very very fun; for example Charlie Davis and Alicia's halftime report during the girls varsity lacrosse game was great. Though my project is not for ESPN, I felt that those more random funny moments have really made the experience for me. On a more serious note, I have learned a lot of important skills when it comes to cinematography and all around scheduling. Having to film and record a decent quantity of interviews so far, I feel that I have become a lot more competent in filming and all around more comfortable when it comes to recording. I have discovered so much about the work that is put into the videos that I view everyday on the Proctor instagram. I have been lucky enough to have my mentor be Ryan Graumann the mastermind behind those staple Proctor videos. Just watching the video that was created of River de Vink, Lindsey Brown, and Brian Thomas being interviewed about what makes Proctor special to them,  really gave me a good goal for how my end product should look. Everything so far has gone very well for me as I have been able to complete almost all of my scheduled interviews. What I have completed this week has really benefited me in many ways, not just in the frame of my project.  The end goal for me really is to create something that I wish I had as an incoming 9th grader at Proctor. Although my video will not provide all the answers to the great puzzle that is high school, I hope that my work can help in some manner. Interviewing my fellow peers about what made proctor special to them in their years here has given me a greater appreciation for our campus and the people who make it what it is. Just to see the look in my interviewees eyes when they talk about their favorite orientation memory, a special moment with friends at the proctor pond, or recap the athletic career at proctor has really been great. I think as students we spend a lot of time looking towards the future wondering what the next year or the next sports season will be like. This project has really made me enjoy the present and recap the things that have made these 4 years special for me. Moving into next week I really want to not only finish this project off strong with the editing section of it, but be proud of my final video. So far I have really enjoyed this process and am very excited to see how it turns out.
